My Top Drugstore Picks

It’s no secret that I’m a lover of high-end beauty. I don’t see any amount of money too much for a lot of high-end brands, especially when it comes to my holy grail products. However, over the years I’ve discovered a few little gems in the drugstore too. I used to hate products from the drugstore, I found the quality just didn’t match up. But I really feel that lower end brands have stepped up their game over the past year or so. I have enough products from the drugstore now to create a full face minus mascara and foundation. I just can’t seem to kick my high-end base and mascara habit! If you’d like to see the products I rate the highest on the drugstore shelves, keep on reading!

Australis AC ONTOUR Palette

This palette packs a lot of value in a very modest price tag. At around $21 NZD, you get 6 shades. Three of which are bronzer/contour shades, two highlight shades and a yellow powder for under the eyes. The contour shades are super pigmented, so make sure you use a light hand with these as they aren’t forgiving if you apply too much. The pinky highlight shade is my favourite of the two and adds a subtle glow to your cheeks. Overall, the application and longevity of the products on the skin makes this palette one of my all time drugstore buys.

Soap & Glory – Glow All Out and Solar Powder

These powders are seriously worth the few dollars that they cost. Solar Powder is a bronzer made up of two shades that I usually just swirl around to add some colour back to my face. The colour pay off is amazing and the shades are cool tone which you don’t find with many drugstore bronzers. This helps to add definition without making me look orange, and means that I can build on the colour if I want to. This little gem also works a treat for contouring too! Glow All Out is a product almost identical to Benefit’s Dandelion blush. It’s a light pink with a slight shimmer that does the job of brightening up your complexion without the heavy flush of colour that a heavily pigmented blush gives.

Maybelline Colour Tattoo Cream Eyeshadow

These cream eyeshadows have the serious staying power of their high-end cousins and blend out seamlessly. A full smokey eye is achievable with a minimal amount of product and a fluffy blending brush. I love the bronze shades, and I’m definitely keen to try out some of the matte colours that have been released since I picked these up!

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

This concealer gives me life! It’s moussey formula and serious full coverage can mask even the angriest of skin problems and doesn’t crease or wear off during the day. I have a lot of love for this little guy, at around $15 NZD, this tube is amazing value for money. I can make a tube last a good few months with everyday wear. It just never seems to run out!

L.A. Girl PRO Conceal High Definition Concealer

I picked this little gem up from my local pharmacy for a killer $9.99 recently, and it is seriously impressive. It’s pretty full coverage and blends out really nicely over the top of my foundation. It doesn’t crease and lasts the whole day! Worth every penny in my opinion.

Chi Chi Brow Pomade

I’m gonna go ahead and say it, this brow pomade from Chi Chi is as good as (if not better!) than the ABH Brow Pomade. The formula doesn’t dry out, keeps your brows in place all day and is so easily applied to the brow. It dries as a powder which keeps the brows looking natural yet full and defined. I apply this with an angled brush and don’t have to worry about it for the day ahead.

ELF Flawless Concealer Brushes

These brushes are a god send if you are anything like me and struggle to blend out heavy eyeshadow. The density of the brush allows you to apply a decent amount of eyeshadow without it caking up on your eyelid. they wash well and have lasted me a really long time. I prefer these to using any of my high-end brushes, and at $10 a pop from Kmart, who could say no?!

I hope you enjoyed reading about my drugstore favourites, what are you favourite affordable products?

Love, Lydia x0
