Give Yourself Permission To Be Where You Are

Be Where You Are |

This blog post was inspired by a post that @courtneyandthebabes shared on Instagram. Go and show her all the love.

The quote that inspired me so much I had to write about it was “give yourself permission to be where you are”. Now, take from that what you will but to me, this quote speaks volumes. In true Aries style, I’m very fiery and driven – always looking for the next big thing, the next project, the next win. It can be seriously exhausting. Pair that with my OCD and you’ve got a recipe for some serious anxiety. I’m constantly thinking of what I should be doing next. I was planning my masters degree before I even got my bachelors! I’m currently in a dream role, but still can’t help but think how I can move up the ranks. I’m not allowing myself to stay where I am and enjoy it. I should be looking around and going, hey, I have a really good job. I am content with what I have now and I don’t need to rush on to the next thing.

Goals and all that are great, but don’t let them get so big that they make you feel like you’re not succeeding where you are now. Don’t let them make you feel inferior, or that you’re not hitting milestones. You are! It’s easy to feel like we constantly have to be striving for more, especially when we see our peers nailing life and smashing out their goals but if you can’t stop and be happy in this moment, “happy” will never come.

You might even be holding out for your next season because the one you’re in is painful or hard but without those tough times, you won’t recognise the good times. The best way to tackle a problem is to lean into it, push through it and dust yourself off. No one ever made history by avoiding difficulty and nothing good ever comes from skipping to the good parts. (Except when Netflix lets you skip the intro, always do that).

I guess what I’m trying to say is that it’s okay to not have big plans in the works. It’s okay to sleep in and ‘waste’ a day. It’s okay to move at your own pace and let life flow around you, if that’s what makes you happy. Us millennials are a generation of go-getters and whilst I think that’s amazing, I can’t help but think a lot of us are trying to rush through life as well. Milestones will come when it’s your time and life isn’t a to-do list you have to check off before you meet your end. Life is to be enjoyed, it’s a journey and how you decide to take that journey is completely up to you. Life is what happens when you’re busy making plans.

So here I am, giving myself (and you!) permission to be exactly where we are. Look around and enjoy it kids, it won’t be here forever.

Love, Lyd x

I loved this post! I couldn’t agree more. Everyone is always so quick to be onto the next big goal and doesn’t spend the time enjoying being in the moment of where things are for them right now xx

I can SO relate to this! The bit that really got me was “I can’t help but think a lot of us are trying to rush through life” – I couldn’t agree more. I used to think that I could only be happy when I had it all – the career, the relationship, the house etc… but this year I’m really trying to focus on being content with where I’m at and just simply enjoying the ride along the way xx
