Affordable Skin Care Brands That I Swear By

When it comes to skincare, those of you who know me will know I like to spend a pretty penny. I’m a sucker for packaging (I know, a marketer who falls for their own tricks) and I love the feeling of using super luxurious products on my skin. However, I’m someone who also tries out a lot of skin care and some of that is super affordable – and really works. I often get asked about my skincare and what I’d recommend so I thought I’d put together a little blog post for those of you who would like to know my recommendations for affordable skincare that ticks all the boxes – enjoy!

Mario Badescu

Yes, really – I’m talking about ole MB again. But hear me out guys, this brand is killer for skincare! I started using them a couple of years ago when I was at breaking point with my skin – ever since then, I’ve always gone back for more. Stand out products for me are the Acne Facial Cleanser and the Hyaluronic Day Cream. Both products sit at under $30 each and offer pretty hefty amounts so you really are getting lotsa bang for your buck! I have also tried the Hyaluronic Eye Cream, Buffering Lotion, Enzyme Cleansing Gel, Herbal Hydrating Serum and Drying Lotion. Without going into too much detail about each product – all I will say is that these products really deliver on their promises. Products from the MB range that I wouldn’t recommend is the Oil Free Moisturiser (super drying on me!), Silver Powder (super annoying to use but not a terrible product) and Botanical Exfoliating Scrub (not as gritty as I usually like however it has almost 5 stars on Mecca!). Have I sold you yet? Seriously, give this brand a try if you’re struggling to pay for high-end skincare or if you like the sound of any of their products. I have faith in pretty much everything in the range!

The Ordinary

This brand is all over social media at the moment, mostly because most of their products come in at under $10! Yep, not kidding. The Ordinary is a sub-brand of Deciem and aims to provide succinct, simple and effective skin care without the price tag. I can confidently say that everything i have tried, I have loved. I have used Buffet (and all rounder serum), Lactic Acid 10% (great for unclogging pores and removing texture), AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution (helps with resurfacing and removing dead skin cells) and Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (anti-ageing). I usually order from Beauty Lish and the shipping can take anywhere form 2-3 weeks – which isn’t long to wait for like, the best skincare that you paid next to nothing for, right?

Next up is good old Mecca! I have only used two of their products but they are affordable and they work. I have used the Transforming Facial Cleanser and the Off Duty Micellar Water. They both do what they say on the tin and are both pretty simple products. The cleanser is easy to use and doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry or tight at all, which could be good for those with normal skin and no major skin issues to be resolved. The micellar water works amazingly well at removing makeup, even stubborn waterproof mascara is no match for this guy! Both falling under the $40 mark is pretty good too!

Tailor Skincare

Last but not least is Tailor Skincare. Now, not all of their products are affordable, some do fall close to $100 but there are a few items that are on my love list that are pretty reasonable. The Oil Cleanse ($39) is absolutely incredible at getting rid of makeup and doesn’t leave an oily residue on your skin afterwards. It’s quite a thick oil so massaging in it feels super luxe and it’s a real treat to use at the end of the day! The Polish ($35) is also amazing, it works really well to get rid of dead skin cells and leave your skin with a glow! Good face scrubs are hard to come by in the affordable price range but this one takes the cake for me! Lastly, the Hydrate Serum ($49) is seriously good. It’s an oil free gel formula that works hard to get down into the layers of your skin and promote plumping and hydration. Fifty bucks might not be in your budget for everyday skincare but serums are always worth investing in and as far as I’m concerned, anything under $100 for an amazing serum is a steal!

Thanks so much for reading, let me know in the comments below whether you’ve tried any of these products before!

Love, Lyd x
