The idea of completely disregarding what others think of you and the things that you do, is something people may struggle with. Here is a list of 10 things that happen when you stop caring what people think – something we should all try! Enjoy x
1. You use less energy by not filtering your behaviour
When you care what people think you filter your behaviour to minimise any negativity. When you stop caring, your spend way less energy trying to mould your words and actions into something they may like. This leads to more energy and focus on words and actions that you value.
2. You attract new people that are interested in the real you
By filtering your behaviour, you may be hiding a part of yourself that others are then missing out on. When you stop caring, and start acting like your true self – you attract a new tribe that value everything about you!
3. You eliminate negative people from your life
When negative people realise that their thoughts and words don’t affect you, they get bored. By not seeking out the opinions of others, negative people fade into the background pretty quickly.
4. You learn the value of your own actions
By doing things that you feel are right, you really learn the value of your actions and words. You learn to be honest with yourself and others and can prioritize both people and activities. When you stop caring about pleasing others, everything you do for yourself gains so much more meaning.
5. You open yourself up to new opportunities
Think about it – if you never did anything that could potentially cause someone to have a negative opinion about you, you’d probably be dead. *dramatic* however, so true. Everything you do whether it’s dying your hair, or starting a business venture will cause people to form an opinion. By disregarding others opinions and doing what you truly want to do, you open yourself up to so much! If I hadn’t started this blog because I was worried what people would think, I wouldn’t have worked with cool brands or developed my very own marketing experience would I?
6. You learn to cope on your own
By not seeking out/relying on the opinions of others to make decisions, you learn to trust your own instincts, make your own decisions and deal with things all by yourself. This is by far one of the most important ones, no adult can go through life bouncing off of others opinions!
7. You stop trying to “fix” yourself
By constantly caring about what others think, we can tend to find minor faults and try to “fix” them. We try to eliminate anything that could cause someone to have a negative opinion of us and end up worrying about things that weren’t wrong in the first place.
8. You stop thinking negative thoughts about others
You know the drill – someone doesn’t love your new haircut. Well, they have bad taste in shoes AND terrible highlights right? Wrong. I know that in the past when someone has had a negative opinion towards something I’m doing, I try to find fault with them to subconsciously defend myself. When we stop relying on validation from others, we also stop finding fault with them too!
9. You stick to your own morals more
Following on from coping on your own, when you disregard others opinions, you do more that falls in line with your own morals. You no longer depend on others to make your decisions and can develop a set of morals and values on which you base your actions.
10. You form your own opinions
Without the negative energy of others, we are more likely to have our own opinions. If someone you know thinks Disney is crap and you stop watching Disney films to avoid them think you’re crap, you’re missing out on something you may enjoy! By ignoring what others think, you form your own opinions which may lead to you finding new things you love!
